Beware of Parking Managers Christmas Present

Today I parked in the Library South lot while I shopped  and lunched on Main Street. As I exited my vehicle I noticed a bag and message over the parking machine at the Lawton Street entrance which was out of order.

So you can imagine my surprise and disgust when I returned and found a parking violation on my windshield. Ticket #3140017650 issued for “METER TIME EXPIRED PUBLIC LOT… LIBRARY SOUTH”. I was incensed as the machine was out of order and this lot has a history of dysfunctional machines. For over one year these machines  have been continuously vandalized.

I believed the ticket was mistakenly issued for overtime parking as the ticket machine was out of order but I had not violated the three hour limit and my tires had not been marked. I proceeded to city hall to see the city manager who was not in. His secretary time stamped my ticket and directed me to the parking manager who was not in, his secretary copied my documentation and directed me to the NRPD. I spoke with the lieutenant who told me the other machines were operational and the sign on the machine directed patrons to use other machines in the lot. I backed off and returned to the lot to see for myself. At the lot I took multiple pictures of the sign from various distances. Walking past the sign from the sidewalk the sign appeared as follows;

And from two feet away this is what appears;

So yes the sign did direct patrons to the other machines BUT it required one to be within two feet to see. I went back to see the mayor who directed me to the city manager. I returned to the parking manager who was in. He stated he was responsible for the sign but pulled no weight with ticketing. I returned to the city manager who directed me to the NRPD and said they would take care of it. I went back to the lieutenant who directed me to come back at 9AM and take it upstairs to the court and plead my case. I was upset because I live in Somers and come to New Rochelle five days a week to care for a senior family member suffering from dementia and because of laziness I will have $25 less to spend on my three year old granddaughter for Christmas. The parking manager did not perform due diligence to properly sign the malfunctioning machine. I offer the following to corroborate my belief as I returned to the lot on my way home and twenty minutes after pleading my case to various officials the parking manager had already had the sign replaced which now appears as;

Now I must go through a metal detector which is a hassle as I have a metal knee replacement and I must waste a half day or more pleading my case in court denying my family member care.

Merry Christmas New Rochelle!

  1. Parking Problems

    Whenever possible I take my business to Larchmont.  It is just up the road and parking is FREE.

  2. from your pictures!
    I have come up with one thing from your pictures!

    Duck tape and plastic bag and paper = cheesy.
    The city my what to but up a legal sign, one with a city issue notice on the bottom made of aluminum.
    Or they could just put for now a sign “FREE 2 hr parking happy holidays”…..But I forgot it’s New Roch hell a place where in time your going to need a permit to fart!

  3. Anthony sorry you had trouble
    Anthony sorry you had trouble in our fair Queen City. Dysfunctional Government brings dysfunction.
    The good news for you is that you don’t live here so your only exposed to the dysfunction at your own will. I am firmly stuck until I can place my home up for sale but the Higher Dysfunctional Democrat up in Washington has insured this will not be possible for maybe 10 years. When you get to Dysfuntional court I am sure Mr. G will reduce it but knowing you I think it will be worth you to tie up the court and the judge to make a point. Government in this town will always be what it is.
    Dysfunctional.

  4. RE: New Rochelle’s warm and fuzzy-” Welcoming committee”
    Mr Galletta, I am sorry you had to endure this nightmare while visiting NR. Sadly, it is so commonplace. If you are NOT being harassed by panhandlers, propositioned by Main street Mary, shot at, robbed, or being ticketed, you are not being ‘properly” greeted by the denizens of downtown ( SoNo) New Rochelle. This is how the city of New Rochelle shows its LOVE and APPRECIATION for the very, very few brave souls who dare tread there. Perhaps the solution is to move your family member out of New Rochelle to a more hospitable place? Then, you and your loved ones will be spared the constant insult and “injury” a visit to New Rochelle entails. Good luck.

  5. A Joke
    Welcome to DOWNTOWN NEW ROCHELLE. The city puts up a sign that small on a machine outside a EYE Doctors office.
    I cannot believe that the Mayor nor City Mgr.would correct this ticket.
    These machines have been down for weeks and to think that the city would not take back one ticket at a lose of $25.00 is crazy.
    The city has lost $1200.00 a week from this lot alone while the machines were down.

    1. City Hall Shuffle
      This is typical of pencil pushers who refuse to leave city hall. These machines were a boondoggle from day one as they don’t give change and it takes months to to acquire replacement parts. New Rochelle has lost tens of thousands of dollars in revenue from these flawed machines. Now the city is scamming residents and shppers in an arttempt to recoup revenue lost due to malfeasance. Once again no one is held accountable we’ll just layoff another firefighter, police officer, crossing guard or DPW worker.

      The parking manager is a $100,000 position with benefits and he can’t assist someone with a valid complaint.

      1. Why can’t the BS team figure out what to cut to bal. the budget?
        Another fluff position in New Rochelle. Simply amazing. And they keep popping up in different stories.

        My personal favorite is the glazier. I bet he puts in a full day and goes home with a sense of accomplishment every day!

        Why do we need a parking manager? Why do we keep an assessor who doesn’t do anything? There’s an easy $200k-$300k in annual savings for the city. Why is it so hard for Bramson & Strome (how does BS sound for future reference?) to figure out what to cut to balance the budget?
