New Rochelle Citizens’ Panel on Sustainable Budget Formed

Written By: Talk of the Sound News

With the municipal workforce and finances stretched to the limit, the City Council is set to approve the creation of a Citizens’ Panel on Sustainable Budgets to help determine optimal service delivery levels and methods for 2013 and beyond.

During the next six months, the18-member panel will review all facets of City operations and provide an analysis of current and alternative service delivery methods and revenue sources, along with recommendations that could help shape New Rochelle’s 2013 budget.

“It is time for a fresh look at the fundamentals of local government,” said New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson. “This publicly inclusive process will help set a long-term foundation for fiscal stability in an era of limits, while better advancing the priorities and expectations of the people of our community.”

The Council-appointed panel will include at-large and district members. Those interested in serving should submit a resume to the City Clerk by January 17 for the at-large appointment or to their Council Member prior to the January 24 district appointment deadline.

  1. name names
Who is on this panel? Like the other fine comments say,Noam’s rubber stampers. Its safe to assume from being around a while,The fix is in.

  2. Just so nobody’s mistaken,
Just so nobody’s mistaken, when the city talks of “new” revenue sources they’re talking about creating new taxes or fees for us all to pay which is why I’d like to see expenses reduced and so far that hasn’t happened at all.

And since there are no names here, I’ll bet this panel is stacked w/Noam’s people so its just going to rubber stamp his proposals.

    1. Guarunteed this panel will be
Guarunteed this panel will be stacked with Noam supporters. Another Davids Island committee is all it is. A bunch of people come together with ideas and then only the ones that Noam approves of will hit the table for discussion. He will simply say that an 18 member panel couldn’t come up with any real solutions to the budget problems in NR and therefore taxes must be increased.

Let’s face it, the council is already stacked with Noam supporters. The majority of the people picking these panel members are Democrats and Noam supporters. So the Republicans are still going to be in the minority on this panel. It’s all smoke an mirrors. What the Democrats want in NR the Democrats get.
