New Rochelle firefighters, responding to a report of the smell of smoke in a house on Friday, received no response after knocking loudly on the front door at 110 Chauncey Avenue. Following protocol they broke down the door to gain access to the consternation of a person in the home who, for reasons still not clear, failed to respond to the loud pounding on the door to their house.

A confrontation ensued. Additional police, including the Critical Incident Unit, were called to the scene but the matter was resolved.

Meanwhile, firefighters from Ladder 12, Engine 22, Ladder 13, and Engine 23 went to work looking for the source of the smoke. After searching every floor of the house, a thermal imaging camera was deployed to determine if there might be a fire in the walls. The mystery was resolved when a firefighter discovered clothes smoldering inside an over. An older person, living in the home, told firefighters, they were drying their clothes in the oven.

No injuries were reported.
