MonroeRegionalMonroe’s two outstanding basketball teams are each one game away from making their National Tournaments and both of those games will be played this Saturday on their home court at the Monroe Athletic Complex (MAC) in New Rochelle, NY. The defending NJCAA Division II Women’s National Champion Mustangs will take to the court at 5:00pm for a District-N semifinal against a very good Union County College team and at 7:00pm, Monroe’s men’s team will face Hagerstown CC in the District III final. The winners of both of those games will earn a trip to their respective NJCAA National Tournaments. District Tournament Schedule

“This is going to be an amazing weekend of basketball at the MAC and we invite everyone in the Monroe community to come out for both of Saturday’s games,” said Athletic Director Bert Shillingford. “Our coaches and players have worked so hard and their goals are now right within their grasp. We hope our fans will get there early to gear up and help push our teams over the finish line. I know that after last weekend’s action, everyone is excited to see them do it.”

The #15-ranked Monroe women are 25-6 and if they win in the semifinals on Saturday at 5:00pm they will qualify for the National Tournament for the third straight season, after winning the title last year. But the task won’t be easy. The Union Owls are 21-5 and after losing to Monroe twice this season, they would like nothing better than to end Monroe’s season. In addition to earning a trip to the Nationals, the winner of that semifinal game will play for the District Championship on Sunday at 1:00pm against the winner of the Lackawana/CCRI semifinal that begins at 3:00pm at the MAC.

The #3-ranked Monroe men’s team is 29-3 and after finishing third in the NJCAA Division I National Tournament last year, they are hungry to get back to Hutchinson, KS for the third straight season with a shot to win it all. Though Monroe defeated Hagerstown earlier this season, their road to glory won’t be easy either. The #14-ranked Hawks are 28-4 and Mustang fans will remember last season when Monroe narrowly squeezed out a dramatic overtime win in the District final against Hagerstown.

Admission is to the MAC is $5.00, but free with a Monroe College ID. The doors will open at 2:00pm for the 3:00pm Lacakawana/CCRI game. Again, fans are advised to get their early to see BOTH Monroe games, which begin at 5:00pm.

  1. This event
Stay out of New Roc during and after this event.. The bronx is coming to New Rochelle. Great way to attract high end retail and customers who like to spend money:)

    1. What a jerky comment
As someone who’s entire bloodline are descendents of the Bronx and as a tax payer of new Rochelle I disagree. People from the Bronx can and do spend money. I detect a hint of elitist BS , maybe even racism. Hope you are johnny never comes and don’t bother to go. I am glad Monroe decided to fill space in New Rochelle and wish them well. If my kids own basketball games are over I hope to go and see the great women’s game there. A nationally recognized program.
