(New York, NY) — Con Edison is sponsoring a “Get Out the Vote” poster design contest for students to encourage and show the power of voting in this fall’s elections.

New York City or Westchester County students who are at least 13 years old and who will be in high school in September are eligible.

“We’re calling on our next generation of civic leaders to illustrate the importance and privilege of our freedom to vote, the hallmark of our democracy. The contest will engage students in promoting voter registration and participating in the November elections,” said Frances A. Resheske, Con Edison senior vice president for public affairs.

A panel of judges, comprised of two executives of nonprofit organizations involved with the arts and three company employees, will chose six finalists from the poster entries. The winning design will be selected by Con Edison employees during a week-long intranet poll.

The deadline to submit designs is Aug. 31. The contest guidelines can be found at www.conEd.com/vote. For contest updates, like us on Facebook at www.Facebook.com/conEdpowerofgiving or follow us on Twitter @ConEdSara or @ConEdLiz. The hashtag for this contest is #conEdvote.

The top three finalists will receive gift cards and the top six entry designs will be promoted online. These designs, along with several other entries, will also be showcased at an art exhibition during the fall at a nonprofit arts organization and displayed at Con Edison facilities.

Con Edison supports hundreds of nonprofit organizations in New York City and Westchester County to strengthen neighborhoods, sustain communities and improve lives. These philanthropic efforts support the arts, environment, and important educational initiatives in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Many of Con Edison’s 14,000 employees share a personal commitment to the region’s vitality through their own volunteer efforts and also choose to support education by utilizing the company’s matching gifts program.
