New Rochelle Police Engage In High Speed Pursuit After Car Break-Ins At Honda Dealership; Suspect Killed in Crash

HondaTheftCrashBronxOne man is dead and another seriously injured after a high speech chase which began in New Rochelle and ended near Co-Op City in the Bronx early Monday morning. The vehicle driven by a suspect collided with parked cars on Givan Avenue at the Palmer Avenue intersection. A passenger in the vehicle was killed.

New Rochelle Police engaged in a high speed pursuit early Monday morning of a Silver Nissan Maxima with New Jersey dealer tags after the people in the car were observed in the Honda Dealership lot.

The pursuit began on Palmer Avenue in New Rochelle and continued to I-95 southbound from Cedar Street from there they went south on I-95 to exit 15 got off the exit made a U-turn got back on I-95 southbound with New Rochelle Police in pursuit with speeds reaching 100 mph.

After getting back on 1-95 southbound from Main Street, the Nissan Maxima traveled down I-95 south and got off Exit 13 (Conner Street) made a left and a quick right onto the I-95 south service road where the vehicle crashed into 3 parked cars on the corner of Palmer and the service road on the side of I-95 southbound. Two suspects were in the car one was killed and the other is in critical condition and was taken to Jacobi hospital in the bronx.

New Rochelle Police on scene in the Bronx say there are many car parts which appear to have come from the Honda dealership in New Rochelle.

In an armed robbery last week at the Radio Shack on Palmer Avenue in New Rochelle, there were initial reports that a suspect fled south on I-95 to Exit 13 (Conner Street).

UPDATE 5:36 a.m.: New Rochelle Police request NYPD and NYFD to the crash scene to get the suspects out of the car.

UPDATE 5:41 a.m.: Getting reports that one of the suspects was killed in accident and other in critical condition.

UPDATE 5:47 a.m.: New Rochelle Police are tracking a third suspect that might have gotten away by running from the scene.

UPDATE 6:03 a.m.: News 12 & Chopper 7 WABC on the scene in the Bronx reporting live from the scene.

UPDATE 12:39 p.m.: NRPD tells Talk of the Sound that NYPD has or may file vehicular manslaughter charges against the driver of the vehicle. NYPD did not confirm that. A passenger in the vehicle, 20, died at the scene. The drive was taken to Jacobi Medical Center and is in critical condition according to NYPD. News12 is reporting that 9 tires were recovered at the scene of the collision.

The Honda dealership was the same one where 18 cars were broken into in the last week. The lot where the cars were broken into is off the road leading into Five Island Park.

    The chase should of been called off before getting on I95, we all to soon forget we lost an New Rochelle police man in a chase on I95 in 1982

    Good job EyeOn,I saw the aerial view at 7 on the news but they never mentioned any crime,it was just another car crash they came upon.
