There are preliminary reports of a vehicle collision where one or more pedestrians may have been struck by the vehicle near the intersection of Eastchester Road and North Avenue near where New Rochelle High School students cross each day as school let’s out.

The intersection was closed off for about 30 minutes. There was a second accident, possible due to traffic conditions from the first accident, on Eastchester Road near White Oak. The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody for driving without a license.

    1. Defensive walking and driving are suggested at all times!
I actually had some work in progress with Traffic Engineer Michael Briska. He met with me back in April. He has been working on the area with me. We also covered some concerns about the very poor crosswalk markings and signage for the Cross Walks at the corner of White Oak Street and Eastchester Road. This is the major crossing areas for New Rochelle High School student. This is a very busy area even without the students. I have had feedback from Councilman Fertel and Inspector Paul Vacca, Building Code Enforcement Officer. They have all been helpful to me with responses and follow up. So people are aware of the issues and working on some solutions at this time. Unfortunately it wasn’t completed sooner.

North Avenue is a very busy and difficult intersection. There isn’t much more they can do. Our society is full of people in a hurry and distracted while driving and walking. All of the signs in the world cannot cure stupidity and ignorance. Everyone pay attention. You or your child could be next if you aren’t careful.

Put down you device and pay attention!
