New Rochelle School District Selects Elementary School Principals at Trinity and Columbus

TrinityNEW ROCHELLE, NY — The City School District of New Rochelle is happy to report the selection of candidates to fill the position of principal at the district’s Columbus Elementary and Trinity Elementary schools.

Sonia Nunez, currently the assistant principal of Columbus Elementary will become the school’s new leader in July following the retirement of current principal, Yigal Joseph at the end of this school year. Ms. Nunez has been assistant principal at Columbus since September, 2005. Prior to that, she served in several different capacities at the district’s Isaac E. Young Middle School. Among her duties at the middle school were foreign language teacher, coordinator of the 21st Century after school program and ELL facilitator.

Ms. Nunez has B.A. degrees in both English and Spanish and a minor in Portugese from SUNY Albany, a Master’s in Educational Theory and Practice (Teaching a Foreign Language), also from SUNY Albany and a Master’s in Education Administration from the College of New Rochelle.

Anthony DiCarlo will be new to the district and is set to assume the position of principal at Trinity Elementary School in July as well. Currently, Mr. DiCarlo serves as Director of Special Education, Pupil Personnel Services and Curriculum & Instruction with the Tuckahoe Union Free School District. His previous experience includes a five-year stint as principal of Tuckahoe’s William E. Cottle School as well as prior experience serving as principal of Lakeland Copper Beech Middle School in Shrub Oak and Tuckahoe Middle School.

Mr. DiCarlo has both a B.A. in International Studies/Spanish and a Master’s in Education from Iona College.

Both Ms. Nunez and Mr. DiCarlo are scheduled to be officially appointed by the New Rochelle Board of Education on June 26th.
