This special Advanced Certificate program is designed for teachers, psychologists, and other professionals who have an interest in and who seek additional expertise in working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

The U.S. Center for Disease Control recently estimated that as many as 1 in 88 children in the United States are diagnosed with autism. “Given the increased number of students identified with autism each year, there is a need for teachers to learn about working with students with autism, and we are trying to meet that need,” says CNR’s Graduate School Dean Marie Ribarich.

This 15-credit program, which offers courses such as, Teaching Language and Literacy to Students with Autism and Methods for Positive Behavioral Support, requires completion of a one-semester practicum. It does not lead to NYSED certification.

According to Professor Simone Pusey, CNR Special Education Instructor and a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, “this Advanced Certificate Program will provide special education teachers, school psychologists and other professionals who work with children with autism, the knowledge and skills to maximize these students’ potential.”
