NRLibraryNew Rochelle Police are investigating a sexual incident involving two 11-year old boys at the New Rochelle Public Library.

Police were called to 1 Library Plaza in downtown New Rochelle on Friday afternoon to investigate allegations of rape and sodomy.

“The incident took place in a corner of the library.” said New Rochelle Police Detective Captain Joseph Schaller.

Given the age of the two boys, police were not forthcoming with additional information, saying only that the matter was still under investigation.

Several New Rochelle police vehicles were at the library this morning.

New Rochelle Library Director Thomas Geoffino issued a brief statement:

“We can confirm that there was an incident on Friday afternoon. Police are investigating the matter. We are not at liberty top discuss the matter any further.”

  1. Without Talk of the Sound
Without Talk of the Sound this would have just been swept under the rug. Thanks Bob for a first class investigative job.

    1. It was just a matter of time
About 10 years ago, I saw Mr. Hobbs writing at one of the computers to an obviously under age boy. He was asking him if his parents knew he liked older men, that he could teach him about sex etc. I went to the counter and demanded that the librarian print out what he was writing, she said no, I asked her to call the police, she said no -you call them, I said I didn;t have a phone, she turned away. I said , do you know he’s a convicted sex offender, she didn’t answer. I demanded to see someone in charge, I waited 10 minutes. A woman came from upstairs, I said are you in charge, she said no. I brought her over to the computer where he was still writing. She said “I can’t do anything, he writing in microsoft word. I said but he has his GMAIL acount open, he’s going to cut and paste. She said he could be writing a work of fiction. I said you people are a work of fiction. This place is filled with young kids and you allow this? She said we are aware of him and others and we keep an eye on them. I said, you’re not doing a very good job, it’s just a matter of time before someone is raped. No one cared, no one would call the police and you’re telling me that you know what’s going on? Just then his time on the computer expired and he angrily closed his account and got up and walked away. The adult Library and children’s library and activities should have never been in the same building.

      1. No Responsibility These Days
The issue I am finding is that most people are not willing to take any kind of responsibility anymore and for what they get paid they don’t have too (especially in NR). The fact that no one would admit they were in charge should tell you something. Every Library I go to, I am always directed to people for what I am looking for and their titles are known so you know who to go to for what.

      2. Library Director
The Director of the New Rochelle Public Library is Thomas Geoffino.

The question should not be “are you in charge” but, “I want to speak to the director”.

      3. My question now would be
My question now would be, why didn’t you call the police yourself Tom?
