Noam is now in Day 4 at the DNC in Charlotte and finally starts to seem to be enjoying himself.
He began his report on a down note:
“…despite a scattering of bright spots, the speeches as a whole were less coherent and mostly forgettable…
But bordered on ecstasy in recounting the speech last night by former President Bill Clinton.
“The crowd in the arena was over the moon. Smiling, cheering, up on our feet, shaking our heads in disbelief as one of the great practitioners of the political arts performed for our edification and entertainment.”
He connected at a meeting of municipal officials:
“I attended a Democratic Municipal Officials (DMO) reception at a local restaurant. In contrast to the U.S. Conference of Mayors gathering the day before, this event did include lots of folks whose experience was relevant and relatable to New Rochelle, and I really enjoyed speaking with colleagues from every corner of the country, most of whom represented smaller and medium-sized communities.”
He even bumped into an e-mail pal of his from L.A.:
“I was also very glad to meet in person the DMO’s national head, Eric Garcetti, who is a Los Angeles City Council Member and a front-runner in the race for Mayor of LA. Eric is a much bigger political fish than I am, and, ordinarily, we wouldn’t have much connection, but over the years, through mutual good friends, we’ve actually exchanged emails a few times about, of all strange things, the game Boggle.”
I wonder if Noam knows that the guy who invented Boggle is from New Rochelle!
Noam reports hearing that he was on TV:
“I am told that I was shown briefly on C-SPAN, cheering as Senator Kirstin Gillibrand was introduced. I cannot confirm this rumor, but if true, this might vault me into a category of television stardom previously reserved only for participants in our local cablecast of Council meetings.”
He may be even happier to know that Talk of the Sound has reports that Noam was seen on CNN, walking around the convention center within camera view.
While these reports are interesting — and finally getting a little more upbeat (maybe it was that Jeff Bridges concert) — I can’t help but feel that Noam missed a real opportunity to boost his Twitter profile. He did not provide a single updated to Twitter other than a few auto-tweets from his blog. He did not once use the official hashtag in his auto-tweets or any tweets (#DNC2012). He should have been flooding us with behind-the-scene photos and tweets. Oh well.
