According to a complaint made to Talk of the Sound, there has been a red car parked in the same spot on 8th Street in New Rochelle, between Washington Avenue and Storer Avenue. A drive through the area showed there is a red car at that location with a handwritten note on affixed to the windshield. The note reads “PLEASE DO NOT GIVE TICKET. CARS OUT OF ORDER. WILL BE MOVED AFTER WORK TODAY THANKS (cousin of Deputy Joe Salerno).

Parking in the area is at premium when school gets back in session. The Columbus Elementary School is right around the corner.

“After 72 hours, police place a yellow sticker on a vehicle as a warning,” said New Rochelle Police Detective Captain Joseph Schaller. “After that the car would be ticketed.”

Asked about “Deputy Joe Salerno”, Schaller said there was no “Deputy” Joe Salerno but there is a Sergeant Salerno.

Talk of the Sound sources claim the red car has been parked on 8th Street for the past several weeks, since at least August 24th, without getting a ticket. There is no yellow sticker on the vehicle.

Talk of the Sound has reported on numerous instances of similar “parking exemptions” based on assertions of connections to the New Rochelle Police Department. As the City of New Rochelle has increased parking fees and reduced available parking, these sort of complaints to Talk of the Sound have risen.
