IMG 2305NEW ROCHELLE, NY — More than 100 coats were delivered to the Oasis Shelter on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 by CNR nursing students as part of The College of New Rochelle Student Nurses Association Winter Coat Drive.

Alka Kurian SN’13, a senior in the School of Nursing and President of the Student Nurses Association, said, “As a resident of New Rochelle, and as a nurse, I want to do as much as I can to give back to our community. With the guidance of our faculty advisor Margaret McAlvanah, I took the initiative to contact The Oasis Shelter, and its director, Larry Mosley, and asked if I could organize a coat drive at CNR for the shelter. Mr. Mosley said a coat drive would greatly benefit women residents. With the help of all CNR students, faculty, alumnae/i and Campus Ministry we were able to collect over one hundred coats for the women of the Oasis Shelter.”

Student members of the Nursing Association Renema Reis SN’13, Shiyon Mathew SN’13 and Jessica Foster SN’13, created and decorated collection boxes that were placed throughout the Main Campus of the College. Students and alumnae/i from all of CNR’s schools contributed coats to the drive which last from October 1, 2012 to November 15, 2012.
