NEW ROCHELLE, NY — No one was injured in a single-car accident in front of 246 Pinebrook Boulevard around 9 a.m. this morning. The car hit a utility pole, cracking the pole half way up and loosening electrical, phone and cable TV wires above. The wires landed on the car leave the driver and a passenger trapped inside. Both driver side and passenger side airbags deployed.

The car was traveling eastbound on Pinebrook Boulevard just past the intersection with Forest Avenue.

New Rochelle police and firefighters responded to the scene following a call from a member of a DPW crew that was clearing leaves in the Pinebrook median.

Electrical workers from Con Edison happened to be on scene, less than a half a block away working to repair lines still damaged after Hurricane Sandy.

Once the lines were determined to be safe, the two men were extricated from the vehicle, a silver Honda Civic.

  1. Pinebrook Blvd.
This should serve as a reminder to people who walk or jog along Pinebrook Blvd. to always walk in the opposite direction of traffic. On numerous occasions I have been forced up on front lawns by inattentive drives who, for whatever reason, wander outside their lane and end up on the grass. Anyone walking or jogging in the same direction as traffic would never know what hit them.
