New Rochelle High School senior Paulie ”Thunder” Sarachelli wins his second Daily News Golden Gloves with a 4-1 triumph against opponent Joseph Alvarez at the Harlem PAL Center in NYC this past March 5th. Sarachelli is holding a record of 6 wins and 0 losses, Representing Main Street Boxing, Paulie is referred to as “a beast” in the ring and the boxer that all media eyes are on. The fierceness and power he possesses within the ropes facing his opponents brings the entire crowd to their feet roaring throughout each round. Paulie “Thunder” is a force to be reckoned with as well as one of the youngest participants in this most prestigious and Nationally respected NY Golden Gloves and on his road to the Barkley Center in April where he could be boxing in the biggest Golden Gloves event of the year. This win marks yet another tremendous accomplishment, complimenting New Rochelle Schools and the superior athletes that are coming out of our High School.
As the bell rang and Main Street Boxing’s Paulie “Thunder” Sarachelli (above in Blue) faced off against Alvarez, representing World Wide Boxing Club (Yellow) with immediate exchanges of punches so violent that it’s being described as an absolute toe to toe slug fest.. A defensive and quick footed Sarachelli commanded his opponent landing hit after hit in the first round where it was obvious that Paulie “Thunder” was gaining momentum. Every hit Sarachelli received strengthened an ominous stare at his opponent, locking his sights in on defeating Alvarez. On his way into Round 2, Paulie was instructed by the corner to let his opponent come after him and not to chase him despite the fact that Paulie had been hit with 2 strong blows. He powered his way through the 2nd round refusing to give the fight up. “2 Minutes left Paul” That’s all you need to take it …two minutes!” Echoing from the blue corner. “You wanna advance , you gotta take this round!” shouted Santiago. The bell rang for round three and Paulie came out like a possessed man that had a mission to complete. Sarachelli went after Alvarez with powerful combinations bobbing and weaving, throwing powerful hooks which had every Harlem fan off their seats in an ovation. The crowd cheered “Paulie”.. “Paulie” bringing even more energy to Paul banging his opposition with an exchange of rights and lefts to the head and body. Sarachelli charged through to a a big win moving him onto the quarters with a 4-1 decision. Sarachelli has become one of the most exciting boxers seen competing this year in the NY Golden Gloves arena. , Alvarez, a south paw (left handed fighter) , put up a hec of a fight, but not enough to outbox Paulie “Thunder” who focused and punched his way through to a notorious Golden Gloves victory.
Paulie Sarachelli trains under former Golden Gloves Champion Albert Santiago, also known as “The Monster Maker” and assistant coach and Professional Boxer Owen Radway, also a former Golden Gloves champion. Training between 5 to 7 days a week at NY Boxing and Fitness in Mamaroneck and also occasionally at the Dole Center in Mt. Vernon, Sarachelli is in amazing physical and mental condition preparing for the next fight in the near future, that date soon to be announced.
This year, New Rochelle High School is officially on the map again. NRHS can proudly claim fame having produced a Super Bowl Champion, Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice, along with The New Rochelle Basketball Team taking home a monumental win in their championship versus Mount Vernon. Also victorious this year are the New Rochelle HS Cheerleading Varsity and Junior Varsity Cheer Teams both winning National Championships in The UCA Competition in Florida for the first time in the history of New Rochelle.
