NEW ROCHELLE, NY — New Rochelle Special Education teacher Ann Marie Rooney is one of 5 winners in the Live with Kelly & Michael Top Teacher Search contest. Producers from the show will be visiting Ward on Thursday to interview Ann Marie, film her in the classroom and also interview the Bavosa family, who nominated her for the recognition.
“This is a tremendous honor for Ann Marie, Ward and the entire New Rochelle school district,” said New Rochelle schools spokesman Paul Costiglio. “This brings a national spotlight once again on the city by way of our schools.”
Rooney will appear on an upcoming broadcast of the show with a date still to be determined.

Today it was announced on Live with Kelly and Michael that Ann Marie Rooney won the 4th Annual Top Teacher Award! From my heart, congratulations Anne Marie! You deserve this award in recognition of everything you give helping every single child that you work with.
My son Peter spent 2 years with Ann Marie Rooney at Ward Elementary in New Rochelle. She is by far one of the BEST teachers on the planet. My son has an IEP and was with Ann Marie during the hardest transitioning period of his life. She worked day in and day out for all those years helping shape and guide Peter into where he is now ~ in a Main Stream classroom with an amazing 2nd grade teacher Mrs. Kamer. Ann Marie was truly the most influential woman in his life besides me and today through the tears, challenges, and accomplishments, I see a successful 7 year old boy who works his little butt off to be like every other kid… but his story can be told becase he has a solid foundation he can stand on today. Because of the love and the tools and strategies he’s been given from Ann Marie, he is having a successful go at his future because she understood the kind of help he needed to get there. I cry whenever I think about it. She is the he is a gift to me, to Peter Jr and to everyone around her.
