NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Downtown New Rochelle studio artists and art galleries open their doors to the public Saturday, June 29th from Noon to 6 PM as part of the BID’s Downtown Open Artist Studio event, a continuation of the festivities at the BID’s Grand Market (http://newrochellegrandmarket.com/) with the Clowns of New Roc’s FunFuzion.
Artists who maintain downtown studios at 2 Division Street, 81 Centre Street and 519 Main Street will be joined by downtown’s growing community of gallery and performance spaces such as Reverol and Company Contemporary Art Gallery (http://www.reverolco.com/), the Gallery at R Patisserie, Backstreet Gallery (http://backstreetgallery.com/aboutus.html) and the PAC House Gallery and Theater at Trinity Church (http://pachousetheater.wordpress.com/).
In addition to open artist studios at New Roc Studios at 2 Division Street, the New Rochelle Art Association NRAA (www.nraaonline.org) will host “Raw” a special member show of works in the state of creation and featured music at 2 PM (http://www.newrochelledowntown.com/new-rochelle-art-association-raw-show/). Dr. Junho Lee, the building’s owner, will host “Black and White and Gray” a group show of five distinguished artists visiting from Korea: Han Kyu Nam, Kim Eel Kwon, Park Michael, Park Joon and Park Kyung Hee.
Marcelo Pablo Pittari (http://www.newrochelledowntown.com/ad/?id=93&feature=1 ) will be among the artists at 81 Centre Artist Spaces who open their studios at 81 Centre Street on June 29th. Marcelo, an award winning artist who came to New Rochelle from Buenos Aires, Argentina via Brooklyn and received part of his art training at the School of Visual Arts and the Art Student League of New York is both a distinguished oil painter, classic portraitist, and talented teacher. He stated” I love the opportunity of meeting the public at open studios and introducing them both to my work and to the opportunity that they too can also receive the same satisfaction that I do of expressing their thoughts and feelings through art.”
The excitement continues at the PAC House Gallery and Theater at Trinity Church where promoter Eric Woodlin will present “A Soul Lens Experience” the work of photographer Deborah Lee and at 2 PM a special dance performance by the Erin Pryor Dance Theater. Across Huguenot Street at Reverol and Company Contemporary Art Gallery visitors can literally walk into the art of Gabriel Gimenez; his multimedia installation “Rumble Room” has taken over every square inch of the gallery joining impressions of urban life with that of Fado a fictional protagonist. And at Backstreet Gallery it will be your last chance to see the artwork and talent of a rising New Rochelle artist Aston Lemelle Thomas; meet him at a closing reception for his show from 3 PM to 6 PM.
The fun begins at 9 AM at the New Rochelle Downtown BID’s Grand Market with more than two dozen vendors selling fruits and vegetables, fish, cheeses and meats, and breads and artisanal food products; they will be joined at 11 AM by the clowns of New Roc’s Fun Fuzion who will entertain children of all ages. Of course complete your perfect, car free day and walk to dinner at one of downtown’s growing neighborhood of fine restaurants.
