A transformer fire on top of a Con Ed pole located near the Hutch Northbound Exit to North Avenue caused a traffic nightmare for people coming home from a great weekend.
The New Rochelle Fire department started to receive calls about a transformer fire around 6pm from home owners in the area. New Rochelle police closed down North Avenue from Fenimore Road to Mill road and the County police closed the North Avenue exit ramp while the Fire Department awaited the arrival of Con Edison crews which took a very long time. After Con Ed crews came to the scene they ordered power to be shut off in the area to about 300 homes.As of 9pm some homes were still in the dark.
