TARRYTOWN, NY — Rock guitarists Earl Slick and Gene Cornish have joined the star-studded lineup appearing at The Westchester All Stars Christmas Concert for Wounded Veterans, Friday, December 6th at 7:30 pm on the Tarrytown Music Hall stage (13 Main Street, Tarrytown, New York). The proceeds from the event will benefit two wounded veterans organizations: the Bob Woodruff Foundation and Veterans Adaptive Sports, Inc. Tax-deductible tickets cost $25, $35 and $50. To purchase tickets and learn more, please visit the event page on the Tarrytown Music Hall website.

The evening presents original holiday music by Westchester County’s greatest musicians along with special guest artists. Master guitarist Earl Slick is best known for his work with David Bowie, from the classic ’70s albums Young Americans and Station to Station, to the Serious Moonlight world tour (1983) and 2002’s Heathen. Slick also added his studio wizardry to John Lennon’s Double Fantasy and other Lennon tracks that were produced posthumously. Gene Cornish is an original member of the Rascals, who popularized blue-eyed soul in the ’60s with hits such as “Good Lovin” and “People Got to Be Free.” His guitar virtuosity with the band earned Cornish membership in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (1997).

Actor Tony Darrow from The Sopranos and Goodfellas will host the event with other performances by former Yankee and Latin Grammy nominated jazz guitarist, Bernie Williams, along with many local musicians. Artists scheduled to appear: Jon Cobert, Tom Dudley, Bill Edwards, Dave Keyes and Duchess Di, Jessica Lynn, Scott and Mia Stanton, Chuck St. Troy, and Kristen Capolino. Bands ready to rock the night include The Renovators and Johnny Feds & Da Bluez Boyz.

The artists and celebrities are donating their performances and appearances, along with everything else — from studio time to composing and arranging the music. Studio sponsors include: Cobert Operations Studio, Dark World Studios, Elmo’s Garage, Headline Studios, The Loft, Long Hill Recording, Peaceful Waters Studio, Riverworks Studio, and Z Studios. Sound Associates is donating the use of audio equipment for the show and VBD Video Productions has offered professional services for the project. Webmaster Donald Benjamin and graphic designer Nancy Mace, plus photographers Peter Reikstins, Amy Kerwin, and Todd Gay have donated their talent as well.

Other sponsors for the event are Heineken, Pete’s Saloon and Restaurant, Key Interiors, DigiWorks Media, House of Stone, Zookie Meatballs, Central Avenue Jeep Chrysler, Smith Cairns Ford, Miller and Miller Insurance, The Appliance Doctor, More Sugar, Gantz Auctions, Bang Zoom Productions, Eagle Town Car and Limo Service, Double Tree Inn, The Inn On The Hudson and Adams Fair Acres Farms. Several radio stations have offered support for the project: WHUD, WXPK (The Peak), WFDU, WFAS, WRIP, and WAXQ.

In addition, blocks of tickets to the show will be offered to the veterans, staff and volunteers from the Veterans Affairs Hudson Valley Health Care System.

  1. New Rochelle, We can’t let the band pass us by!
New Rochelle, We can’t let the band pass us by!

The Westchester All Stars Christmas Concert for Wounded Veterans, the event will benefit two wounded veterans’ organizations. Such a tie in would be perfect for a location like a converted Armory such as the proposed vision for The Veterans Center for the Performing Arts submitted by Shop Architects along with the New Rochelle Veterans and The New Rochelle Opera.

New Rochelle needs something positive and upbeat like this to draw people into this city, I believe there should be an emphasis on The Armory being used as a Performing Arts Center as proposed by SHoP Architects. If The City of New Rochelle was to create a vision of a New Rochelle Waterfront for all the people of New Rochelle which includes saving the Armory in some way shape and form. Restore and re-vitalize The Armory and New Rochelle with an emphasis on The Armory being used as a Performing Arts Center possibly anchored by The New Rochelle Opera (The Veterans Center for the Performing Arts) with a community center honoring and serving the post-service needs of veterans for New Rochelle and all the Veterans.

The New Rochelle Opera and Symphony would have a home and not have to use other auditoriums like they currently do. In the November issue of “The Gael Gram” from Iona College the list of events include; “The Symphony of Westchester All Beethoven Program” by The Symphony of Westchester, “An Evening of Celtic Music” Iona College Pipe Band and more, “Handel’s Messiah” By The Sound Shore Chorale and “Chamber Musicians of the Symphony of Westchester” The Symphony of Westchester.

What do some of the cities and towns around New Rochelle currently have and what are they doing? They are energized and community driven with venues such as The Tarrytown Music Hall, The Emelin Theater, The Capital Theater, The Performing Arts Center at SUNY Purchase, The White Plains Performing Arts Center, The Paramount Center for the Arts, The Ridgefield Playhouse and so much more. We can’t let the band pass us by any longer New Rochelle.

New Rochelle needs to create a concert venue with restaurants and places of interest with shops and boutiques, a destination place for people from outside of the city as well as the citizens of New Rochelle. Give people a reason to want to visit New Rochelle.
