NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The City of New Rochelle’s 325th Anniversary Committee concluded their celebration with a commemorative reception at City Hall on March 18. Committee members received both a City commendation from Mayor Noam Bramson and the City Council, and a County proclamation from Legislator James Maisano.

“During the past year, the 325th Committee brought our entire community together in celebration of New Rochelle’s rich history, vibrant present, and promising future,” said Mayor Bramson. “It’s especially fitting that the Committee is able to conclude its work by contributing to the restoration of two beloved monuments. On behalf of a grateful city, I extend thanks to the volunteers who donated countless hours to this effort and offer congratulations on a job very well done.”

Committee Chair Marianne Sussman noted, “I was privileged to chair such an enthusiastic committee, and our success is evident in the wonderful events and initiatives we accomplished, many of which will continue in the years ahead. And, thanks to our extensive fundraising efforts, the generosity of our many donors and the hard work of volunteers, we are able to fund the restoration of two valuable historic monuments- the Leisler statue and Huguenot Memorial.”

Two mementos of the anniversary year are still available for a small donation: the beautiful full-color Commemorative Book for $15, and a poster by internationally-acclaimed artist Charles Fazzino for $10 and $15 (signed). The 325th Anniversary Commemorative Book, edited by City Historian Barbara Davis and Theresa Kump Leghorn and designed by Jesse Sanchez, includes complete photos and text of the popular “Timeline Exhibit” as well as ten pages of photographs of scenes and participants from special events: the Gala dinner dance, Kite Day, tennis tournament, Restaurant Week, the first annual Street Fair, Fatt Calfe Ceremony, Homecoming Showcase and more (look for your own picture)! Similar commemorative books from the city’s 225th, 250th and 300th anniversary years have become treasured keepsakes, and this beautifully printed 64-page book book is sure to join them as a sought-after collectible. The poster, designed by artist Charles Fazzino, highlights every corner of the City through venues new and old, iconic and sentimental.

Copies of the Commemorative Book are available at the the City Clerk’s Office at City Hall (515 North Avenue), the Curtain Shop (541 Main Street), Recologie (14 Lawton Street), and the New Rochelle Public Library’s Community Relations Office (1 Library Plaza). Posters are available at the City Clerk’s Office.
