New Rochelle Schools to Celebrate Flag Day

FlagdayNEW ROCHELLE, NY — New Rochelle elementary schools will celebrate Flag Day on Friday, June 13 beginning at 9:00 a.m. They will be joined by the New Rochelle Elks Lodge.

The ceremony for grades K & 1 will be held at Daniel Webster Magnet School at 95 Glenmore Drive from 9:00 to 9:15 a.m.

The ceremony for grades 2-5 will be held at Daniel Webster Magnet School at 95 Glenmore Drive from 9:30-10:15 a.m. There will be Instrumental and Vocal Music, Poetry, and Twirlers.

The ceremony for grades 3-5 will be held at Jefferson Elementary School at 131 Weyman Avenue from 11:00-11:30 a.m. Students will offer a short history of the flag and 24 students will carry flags. Chorus will perform America the Beautiful.

On May 30, 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a presidential proclamation establishing a national Flag Day on June 14. Many Americans celebrate Flag Day by displaying the Red, White and Blue in front of homes and businesses. The day commemorates the adoption of the Stars and Stripes as the official flag of the United States.
