Highlights Of First Week Of Summer Programs At Library

Redhawk Dancers to Perform 7 8 14NEW ROCHELLE, NY —- New Rochelle Public Library will kick-off the first week of summer activities with a variety of free programs for all ages. In addition to a full array of workshops and classes for pre-K, elementary, middle and high school students, highlights for the week of July 7th include:

Monday, July 7, 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm: The Family Disney Summer Hit Parade series will begin with the 1961 animated version of 101 Dalmatians. The movie features the voices of Rod Taylor, J. Pat O’Malley, and Betty Lou Gerson. The 79 minute film is appropriate for all ages and will be shown on the big screen of the air-conditioned Ossie Davis Theater.

Tuesday, July 8, 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm: The 31st season of International Music and Dance will present a performance by members of the Redhawk Dance Troupe, who will showcase traditional dances and stories from the Southwest, Northern Plains and Eastern Woodlands, with audience participation. Seating is on a first-come/first-served to the capacity of the library’s Ossie Davis Theater. Doors open at 6:45 pm.

Wednesday, July 9, 10:30 am – 11:30 am: Films from Picture Books for the Younger Set will feature The Curious Garden…and more stories about nature. The films are appropriate for children ages 2 – 6 years.

From 2:00 – 3:30 pm, the Family Film series begins with the animated movie, Cloudy with the Chance of Meatballs. The movie is rated PG and is appropriate for children in grades 2 – 6. Both film will be show in the Ossie Davis Theater,

Thursday, July 10 and Friday, July 11, from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm, The Friends of the Library Super Summer Book Sale will offer terrific reads for the beach or vacation destination, including best-selling fiction and non-fiction, biographies, classics, audio books, dvds, gift books, and more – all at rock-bottom prices.

Saturday, July 12, 11:00 am – 12:30 pm, Container Gardening Workshops begin, with farmer Ruby Olisemeka leading participants of all ages in growing bountiful gardens – without a garden. The six-session workshops will show how most vegetables can be grown in simple, inexpensive containers by adding soil, seeds, water, and light.
