Westchester County Board of Legislators Vice Chairman Jim Maisano says current proposals to limit public commentary at New Rochelle School Board Meetings are “misguided”. He says they should not be approved.
Maisano goes on to say:
The Westchester County Board of Legislators has a very simple policy – at the beginning of each meeting, anyone can visit and speak for 3 minutes about anything he or she wishes. It’s a complete free speech forum. The legislators listen and don’t make comments. We reserve the first 30 minutes of our meetings for 10 speakers and will continue the public commentary section at end of meeting if there are more than 10 speakers. We will stay in session until all guest speakers get their 3 minutes. We also usually allow public comment at our committee meetings.
