Police Chase in New Rochelle Goes Through Three Backyards, Suspects Trapped, 1 Escapes on Foot

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Westchester County Police chased a vehicle through the Sycamore Park neighborhood in New Rochelle after a WCPD vehicle was rammed by a car. New Rochelle police joined in the pursuit. WCPD helicopter is up over the area. WCPD K-9 units are involved in the search.

The incident began at 2:12 p.m. on Sanford Boulevard in Mount Vernon, NY. A Westchester County Police Detective conducting a fraud investigation at the Target Store. He attempted to stop a car. The car rammed into the detective’s vehicle and took off. The detective pursued the vehicle from Mount Vernon to New Rochelle.

The driver of the suspect’s vehicle fled on local streets to Boston Post Road in Pelham Manor and then headed North up Route 1 through Pelham into New Rochelle. The suspect’s vehicle then turned North onto Kings Highway, made a left onto Ronalds Avenue and a left onto Hill Street before running into a dead end.

The suspect then drove into a driveway at the end of the street, then through the backyard, and then through three more backyards before being trapped at 55 Hill Street. The vehicle damaged fences and a deck

Three suspects jumped out of the car and fled the scene.

One suspect ran down the street towards Kings Highway. A Bluebird taxi was waiting for a regular pick up at 2 Ronalds Avenue. The suspect got into the back of the taxi and asked me to driven away. Soon after a WCPD patrol car with lights flashing came upon the taxi. The suspect jumped out of the taxi and attempted to flee. The WCPD officer got the suspect on the ground and put a gun to his head before handcuffing him and taking him into custory.

A second suspect, the driver of the vehicle, was caught several blocks away.

A third suspect fled on foot and still on the loose.

WCPD and NRPD put out a BOLO for a Male/Black, 150 pounds, 5’10”, wearing shorts, black and white Air Jordan sneakers, last seen at 33 Ronalds Avenue.
