BETHLEHEM, PA –- The College of New Rochelle volleyball team placed second in the Silver Bracket at the 12th Annual Greyhound Premiere after splitting two matches on the second day of the tournament, held at Moravian College. Sophomore Tiany Perez Diaz was named to the All-Tournament team.
The Blue Angels picked up their first win of the season in the tournament finale against Centenary College, defeating the Cyclones, 3-1 (25-18, 19-25, 25-7, 25-9). Fabiola Padilla Rios wrapped up a strong first collegiate tournament with her first double-double, recording 10 kills to go along with a team-high 13 digs, adding three aces.
Meghan King slammed home a match-high 13 kills, while Perez (career-high 10 aces, 12 digs) and Indigo Flowers (match-high 24 assists, 11 digs) each tallied a double-double in the win.
The team’s first match of the day saw Ursinus College defeat the Blue Angels, 3-1 (21-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-16). King smashed a match-high 16 kills, Melanie Soto Lopez handed out a match-high 28 assist and Perez Diaz dug up a match-high 35 balls, but it was not enough to defeat the Bears. Perez Diaz’s dig total matched her own school record and set a new school record for digs in a four set match.
The Blue Angels return to action on Wednesday, September 3, hosting Manhattanville College in their home opener. The match is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
