“We are pleased to announce that as the result of a recent generous donation from a former Remington member, the teen hours will be expanded effective immediately to 3:00pm to 9:00pm,” says Quay Wallace Watkins, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle. “We will be offering nationally developed Boys & Girls Club of America programs in addition to continuing our successful locally developed programs. Through Project Learn, the teens will receive homework help and tutoring in the afternoon from local college students. During the evening, throughout the year, we will run national programs such as Passport to Manhood, SMART Girls, Money Matters Diplomas2Degrees, Healthy Habits, and Career Launch; in addition, to our fitness program Triple Play and Open Gym.
From the moment you step inside the Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle’s Remington Clubhouse it’s evident that great changes are underway. The building recently underwent a “mini-facelift” complete with wall painting, opening day maintenance, the repurposing of certain spaces and the acquisition of much needed furniture. But the changes to this clubhouse that serves nearly 100 kids each day haven’t stopped there. When children from the community arrived on opening day, they were greeted by familiar faces and introduced to the new Remington Clubhouse Director.
After a highly successful track record as Program Director for another Boys & Girls Club, Kandece Francis has joined the Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle in the pivotal role of Remington Clubhouse Director. “I admire the tremendous work that has been done to serve the children at Remington and look forward to working with the community to build on the foundation established by the long history of dedicated Club Directors at Remington.”
“We are thrilled to have a person of Kandece’s caliber join our team, says Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle Executive Director, Quay Wallace Watkins. Her years of successful youth programming and commitment to the Boys & Girls Club mission will serve the Remington Clubhouse well. She also brings new energy and ideas that will encourage growth as we work to serve more kids in need of our high quality programs. I encourage everyone to visit the Remington Clubhouse and witness the incredible impact Kandece has already made in the brief period she’s been on staff!”
With five locations throughout the city, the Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle’s programs serve over 2,000 total kids each year. Anyone interested in learning more about the Club and its programs can do so by calling (914) 235-3736, visiting www.bgcnr.org or emailing rbreedy@bgcnr.org.
