NEW ROCHELLE, NY — On Tuesday, October 14, 2014 the Fosina Family will receive the 2014 Service to Youth Award from the Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle. This recognition will take place during the organization’s 52nd Annual Golf Outing & Tennis Challenge at Wykagyl Country Club. This award is presented to the family for its stellar reputation and generational commitment to supporting the community, and charitable organizations.

The Fosina Family has resided in New Rochelle for over 100 years and through five generations has been involved in donating their time and money to our city. Three members of the Fosina family have been inducted into the Boys’ and Girls’ Club Hall of Fame, John F. Fosina, Joseph F. Fosina and Andrew Fosina. Giving back to their community is something that the Fosina’s pass down from generation to generation, starting with John F. Fosina.

Today, there are 24 members of Joe and Mickie Fosina’s family living in the city of New Rochelle. They are the proud parents of five sons and one daughter: John, Ken, Gary, Michael, Dan and AnnMarie (Rooney) and 15 grandchildren. Each, in their own way, are active in our community. Their generosity started back in the 1960’s and 1970’s by raising money for The Boys Club, as it was called at the time, Little League Baseball and the newly organized New Rochelle Youth Tackle League. They were also involved in developing a youth hockey league and starting the New Rochelle Aquatic swim club.
Three generations have been active members and Presidents of our schools PTAs most recently Linda and Betsy, where they helped develop programs for student activities outside the classroom. Several members of the family have given time to participate on a variety of City Committees. Some have coached in YTL and Little League, while others tutored those in need. In addition, several worked on the committee to raise money to open the Huguenot Children’s library and Mickie has written children’s books that have been published and are now in that library.

Ann Marie works with our children as a Special Education Teacher at Ward School and two years ago was named one of America’s top teachers. Four generations have participated in the Boys and Girls Club programs as children, with the two youngest girls, Olivia and Julia, now in the fall basketball program.

Finally, most are familiar with Joe Fosina’s legendary work as the President of New Rochelle Pop Warner for over 45 years. The City of New Rochelle’s honored him by dedicating our youth football and soccer field “Joseph F. Fosina Field” as a loving tribute to his generosity of spirit and commitment to kids.

“The Service to Youth Award was designed to recognize honorees that go the extra mile to make a difference,” says Quay Watkins, Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle Executive Director. “The Fosina Family, for years, have done so much for so many throughout the Sound Shore. We are thrilled to honor them for their countless contributions!”
