The College of New Rochelle’s Melanie Lopez Soto Named HVIAC Volleyball Rookie of the Week

NEW ROCHELLE, NY – For the second time this season, the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has selected The College of New Rochelle’s Melanie Lopez Soto (Gurabo, PR/Notre Dame) as its Volleyball Rookie of the Week, the conference announced today.

Lopez played well in all phases of the game last week. Playing setter in the Blue Angels’ 6-2 system, the rookie handed out a team-high 53 assists, and was third on the team with 25 kills. The setter added 28 digs and seven aces on the week, as The College of New Rochelle picked up two wins. Her best overall match came in the win at Keystone College, where she registered 14 assists, six kills, eight digs and three aces.

A Blue Angel volleyball player has now earned HVIAC Volleyball Rookie of the Week honors every week this season.

The College of New Rochelle returns to action on Thursday, October 16, traveling to Purchase, NY to take on Purchase College in a non-conference match slated to begin at 7pm.
