New York’s 11th Largest School District Offers Tech Education for Parents K-12
Parents of the City School District of New Rochelle’s 11,000 students are invited to a free community-wide digital media event Thursday, October 23 from 7:00-9:00pm at New Rochelle High School.
The evening will include an in-depth, interactive presentation, a student performance, and expert panel discussion about the social/emotional/educational landscape of children’s digital lives. The panel will be moderated by FiOS1 News Anchor Mike Gilliam.
Expert panelists:
• Dr. Jeff Gardere, “America’s Psychologist,” who appears regularly on the Today Show, CNN, MSNBC, and FOX News. He has written several books including Practical
Parenting and Smart Parenting for African Americans.
• Nancy Friedman, Co-Founder of KidzVuz, a tween-focused media and entertainment
company. KidzVuz delivers safe and creative products to tweens and their parents
through interactive media and mobile apps.
• Dr. Christine Coleman, Director of Technology for the City School District of New Rochelle. In this role, she leads all aspects of digital instruction and learning for 14,000 users K-12.
• Lauren Barry, NRHS’ Students Against Destructive Decisions, a junior at New Rochelle High School. She’s been an active executive board member of SADD since the beginning of her freshman year.
Topics will include: How can parents effectively monitor their children’s presence online? What are the best ways to encourage kids to make safe choices? What apps and social media tools are students using and how do they actually work?
Free bus transportation is available and free childcare for elementary school age children.
