WESTCHESTER, NY — Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino attended Hudson Valley Honor Flight’s send-off Saturday at Westchester County Airport. Hundreds of fellow patriots joined Astorino in cheering World War II veterans as they embarked on a one-day trip to Washington D.C, highlighted by their visit to the World War II memorial.
74 Westchester WWII veterans traveled free of charge to our nation’s capital thanks to a $5,000 donation from the County’s Veterans Service Agency as well as other donations and sponsorships arranged through Hudson Valley Honor Flight.
“Thank you to the hundreds of residents, volunteers, donors and sponsors who came out in support of our veterans,” said Astorino. “Without you, this trip would not have been possible. This is such a wonderful initiative to honor the heroes from our greatest generation, and I was extremely proud to be a part of it.”
Astorino awarded each World War II veteran with the Westchester County Certificate of Service and Medal.
