Women’s Soccer Falls At Monmouth, 2-0

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Iona College women’s soccer team fell to Monmouth University 2-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action Wednesday evening at Hesse Field. A scoreless tie for the majority of the contest, the Hawks tallied two goals in the final 16 minutes of play.

In the 75th minute, Julie Spracklin scored her fifth goal of the season off an assist from Rachelle Ross. The Hawks extended their lead in the 87th minute when Alexis McTamney registered her sixth goal of the year.

Monmouth outshot the Gaels 18-7 in the contest, and registered six corner kicks to Iona’s two. Freshman Christine Rebus led the Gaels with three shots, while freshman Charlotte Stuart and sophomore Erika Flowers each recorded two shots.

Graduate goalkeeper Lauren Ferris made nine saves for the Gaels, while Nicole D’Agostino recorded one stop for the Hawks.

Iona concludes its 2014 season Wednesday, Oct. 29 when it welcomes Fairfield to Mazzella Field for a 3:00 pm start.
