FLUSHING, NY – The College of New Rochelle tennis team finished third in the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Conference Championship held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on Saturday.
Senior Samantha Gomez had an outstanding day for the Blue Angels, going to the final round of the Singles Flight #3 and picking up two points for the Blue Angels. Gomez started her day in the semifinals defeating Alexandra Kadyakina of Berkeley College 8-2. In the final round, Gomez fell to Pratt’s Sarah Conant.
In Singles Flight #4, senior Jamilla Smith earned another point for the Blue Angels with her 8-4 win over Frenchie Rodriguez of Vaughn College in the quarterfinals. Smith dropped her semifinals match aagainst Pratt’s Gabriella Guerra.
The Blue Angels earned their final point of the day in the Double Flight #2, when Marie Gomes and Kendra Michel teamed up to beat Alexandra Kadyakina and Marie Evje 8-1. Gomez and Michel pushed through to the semifinals, but fell to Carson Stanck and Gariella Guerra of Pratt.
The College of New Rochelle’s third place finish came behind St. Joseph’s College and four-time champions Pratt Institute. The Blue Angels complete HVIAC play with a record of 3-1.
