NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Conference announced the members of the 2014 All-Conference Tennis Team Saturday following the HVIAC Championships. Seniors Nancy Varughese (Blauvelt, NY/Tappan Zee) and Jamilla Smith (New Rochelle, NY/Camden) were honored for their excellent play throughout the season.
Varughese earns All-Conference for the second consecutive season, splitting time between #1 and #2 singles as well as #1 and #2 doubles. The senior earned three conference wins this season, tying for first on the team. She enjoyed a career day against St. Joseph’s-Brooklyn picking up a big 10-1 win at #2 singles and her second win of the day at #2 singles 8-5 to help lead the Blue Angels to a 5-4 victory over the Lady Bears.
Smith earns All-Conference honors for the first time in her career, finishing the year perfect in singles conference matches. Playing at #4 and #5 singles this year, her wins are tied for second on the team. She started the season off strong with a 10-4 win at #5 singles against St. Joseph’s-Brooklyn and finished the season on the same note at #4 with a 10-5 win over Vaughn.
