Fire Guts 2 Family House in West End of New Rochelle, 1 Firefighter Injured

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The New Rochelle Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 9 First Street in New Rochelle, NY. The structure appeared to be an abandoned two family house. No one was in the house at the time of the fire, according to the scene commander.

“Our guys knocked it down pretty quickly,” said Deputy Chief Henry Senno.

Asked about the cause of the fire, Senno said it appeared to have started on the outside.

“We’re not sure at this time.” said Senno. “We have an investigator on scene.”

The call came in at 8:05 pm. A call for “all units” went out at 8:19 p.m. The main part of fire was under control at about 8:30 p.m.

28 firefighters were on scene. One firefighters was taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries.

Yonkers provided mutual aid at the firehouses but were not on scene.

This Thursday, New Rochelle Firefighters responded to a vacant home just blocks from Fire Station 2, finding it engulfed in flames. Despite the well-advanced fire, they were able to put it out before it could spread.
