NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A Sherlock Holmes Film Festival will be held in the Ossie Davis Theater of the New Rochelle Public Library on Saturday, September 27th, from 12:00 noon to 4:30 pm. The event is the third annual film festival presented by The Three Garridebs, members of the Westchester scion of The Baker Street Irregulars, and will celebrate Sherlock Holmes, Dr. John H. Watson, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The program will include the 1920 silent film, Sherlock Holmes, starring John Barrymore’ and the 1939 film, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, starring Basil Rathbone. A variety of Holmes-related shorts, clips, cartoons and conversation will round out the lively program.
The name of The Three Garridebs, founded in 1973, is taken from the title of one of the stories in The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes. The members are devotees of Sherlock Holmes who enjoy studying The Master (Holmes), his era, and related topics – and having fun doing it. As Sherlockians, their primary focus is the Canon – 56 short stories and 4 novels written (mostly) by Dr. John H. Watson and published with the assistance of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. “The game,” as it’s known, assumes that Holmes and Watson actually lived and that Doyle was Watson’s literary agent.
The free event is open to the public.
