Iona College Swimming And Diving Drops Meets To Bryant

NEW ROCHELLE, NY – In a meet sparked with bang-bang finishes and close races in nearly all 32 events, the Bryant Bulldogs pulled out a pair of victories today over the Iona College swimming and diving team Saturday at the Hynes Athletics Center Pool.

The Bryant women, who compete in the Northeast Conference outscored the Gaels 199-93. The Bryant men, who finished a slot ahead of the Gaels in last February’s MAAC Championships, where they compete as an affiliate member, held off the closing Gaels to secure the win in the meet’s last race, 158-140.

Leading the Gaels on the women’s side with individual wins were Elizabeth Kaczmarek, with three wins coming in the 200-Free (1:57.56), 500-Free (5:16.50) and 200-IM (2:14.32). Kaitlyn Mahon claimed the 1000-yard Freestyle at 10:56.07 and Mary Ellen Mangione outdistanced the field in the 200-Breaststroke at 2:29.87.

The men’s side saw Keegan Boisson-Yates take the 100-Back (54.44) and the 100-Butterfly at 53.47. Collin Purrman took both the 200-Back (2:01.46) and the 1000-Free (10:02.08). Charles Blaschinski took the 3-M diving event at 222.95; Zachary Holbrook took the 50-Free (22.50); and, Dylan Mechanic won the 200-Butterfly (2:00.45).

“We competed very well today, but just didn’t have enough in some events to close the gap.” said head coach Nick Cavataro.

The Maroon & Gold returns to action next Friday (Nov. 7) when they travel to the United States Military Academy, where the women’s squad will face Army and the men will take on the Black Knights and Columbia
