Shots Fired in Downtown New Rochelle, 1 Injured

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Shots rang out in downtown New Rochelle this evening, sometime around 9:30 p.m. Witnesses reported hearing 5 shots fired. Others reported a blood trail in the area of Clinton Place and North Avenue.

One man was shot in the face. He was taken to Jacobi Medical Center accompanied by a New Rochelle police officer. The injury is not believed to non life threatening.

A second man, believed to have been the intended target of the shooter, was not wounded.

The gunshot victim and target are both said to be known to police. The shooter is said to be known to the victim and target.

Neither the victim or target is cooperating with police, sources say.

Police set up a crime scene at North Avenue and Clinton Place, pictured above, closing off traffic in both directions for several blocks. Police spent several hours canvassing the area for shell casings, taking photographs and investigating the incident.

Blood was visible on the street and on the sidewalk at North Avenue and Clinton Place.
