CAMBRIDGE, MA — The fourth seeded Iona College men’s water polo team concluded its weekend at the CWPA Northern Division Championship with a 15-12 loss to sixth seeded MIT Sunday morning.
Seniors Kyle Elmore and Jake Lloyd continued their strong weekend play with three goals apiece. Junior Zach Presto scored twice, while seniors James Ramaley and Ian Thompson, junior Gerardo Sanchez Rivera and sophomore Chris Ellis registered one goal.
The Gaels jumped out to a 3-1 lead after the first quarter. The Engineers answered with a 12-6 run over the next two periods to take a 13-9 lead after the third. Iona was able to trim the deficit to three, 15-12, by outscoring the host team 3-2 in the final eight minutes.
The Maroon & Gold next awaits a potential at-large bid to the 2014 CWPA Championship held Nov. 21-23 in Annapolis, MD.
