PELHAM, NY — Burbio.com, a free online service that gives families an easy way to sync their calendars to those of local community groups, and Volunteer New York!, a one-stop resource devoted to increasing volunteerism in Westchester and surrounding communities, today announced the creation of a Teen-Family Volunteer Calendar that features volunteer opportunities throughout Westchester hosted on Burbio’s calendar sharing platform. The calendar can be found here.

The initiative will launch with a Holiday Volunteer Opportunity calendar with volunteer events every day during the holiday period that are appropriate for families volunteering together or teenagers looking for chances to serve. It will continue after the holidays with featured ongoing volunteer calendars that include opportunities and events split across Northern and Southern Westchester.

Burbio.com is founded by Julie Roche and Dennis Roche, long time volunteers and parents of four children from Pelham, NY who were overwhelmed by the amount of manual calendar entry trying to keep track of and search for events for groups they were involved in. They created Burbio.com, which expanded to all of Westchester in September, and currently hosts over 1,000 schools, sports, and community calendars, allowing parents to easily find and synchronize to their personal calendars and groups to post easy-to-share calendars for members.

“In expanding Burbio.com to so many communities one of the things we have heard from families is they want to find local volunteer options but don’t know where to look,” said Julie Roche. “Volunteer New York!, with its extensive network of volunteer opportunities and its core mission of volunteerism makes the perfect partner to create a Burbio calendar for families to easily access.”

“One of the challenges inherent in fulfilling our mission is reaching families and teenagers who want to volunteer but have busy schedules and also don’t know where to look,” said Alisa Kesten, Executive Director of Volunteer New York!. “Burbio’s calendar platform and its audience of highly involved families across Westchester, make them a great partner to increase the connectivity between volunteers and nonprofits in the area.”

Burbio.com will promote the Teen-Family Volunteer Calendar opportunities through its personalized home page that highlights recommended local events based on a user’s zip code and interests as well as through periodic updates alerting users about new group calendars on the service. “Burbio is all about making it easier to enjoy these great communities in which we live,” says Julie Roche. “And this partnership fits right in with our mission.”

About Burbio.com – Burbio.com is a free calendar sharing and synchronization platform that allows parents to search, find, and add events from important local calendars, and allows groups to easily create and share calendars with local events. Burbio allows users to easily add events to their personal calendar on Burbio, and then sync to Apple or Google Calendars. Users can also subscribe to updates so when something changes they find out about it. Community organizations can easily set up their own group calendar for free on Burbio, promote their events and include links back to their own website. Burbio currently hosts over 1,000 calendars, from schools, sports leagues and local non-profits to scout groups and car pools, and is growing rapidly.
