CSEA Calls Cops After Funds Go Missing in Accounts of New Rochelle Public Library Workers Union

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — An internal audit by Civil Service Employees Association (“CSEA”) Local 860 has uncovered financial fraud by a union officer of the CSEA unit at the New Rochelle Public Library, Talk of the Sound has confirmed.a

Sources tell Talk of the Sound that the financial irregularities came to light after checks issued to union members began were not honored by the unit’s bank.

The CSEA audit found that funds were missing from the CSEA NRPL unit’s dental financial account and the units rebate account.

JohnStainoIn a statement, John Staino, President of CSEA Local 860 in White Plains, said the union intends to prosecute to the fullest extent possible and seek repayment of all funds that may have been improperly used.

“Upon discovering the irregularities, the CSEA brought internal disciplinary charges against a person alleged to have engaged in wrongdoing and also brought a complaint with local law enforcement agencies” said Staino.

Local 860 is comprised of 99 Units with a constituency of over 14,000 Union Members and Agency Shop fee payers making it the largest Local in the CSEA organization.

The union says that all accounts are now in safe hands and all unit and dental liabilities are paid up-to-date.

Through an internal audit, the CSEA has uncovered irregularities in the unit’s dental financial account and the units rebate account.

Upon discovering the irregularities, the CSEA brought internal disciplinary charges against a person alleged to have engaged in wrongdoing and also brought a complaint with local law enforcement agencies.

Local law enforcement directed CSEA not to disclose or discuss specific facts of the ongoing investigation.

The accounts are now in safe hands and all unit and dental liabilities are paid up-to-date.

New Rochelle Public Library Executive Director Thomas Geoffino, reached for comment last night, assured Talk of the Sound that no library funds were involved.

“This incident is a union matter,” said Geoffino.

CSEA intends to prosecute to the fullest extent possible and seek repayment of all funds that may have been improperly used.
