NEW ROCHELLE, NY –- The College of New Rochelle senior forward Jah-Leah Ellis (Harlem, NY/Hun School of Princeton) has been named the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the conference office released Tuesday.
Last year’s AD3I Player of the Year picked up where she left off last season, scoring 23 points in 26 minutes in the Blue Angels season opener at Cedar Crest on November 15th. Ellis went 10-of-19 from the field and recorded 12 rebounds and four steals in the 87-61 victory. The senior followed that performance up with a 24-point outburst in just 22 minutes at Notre Dame (Md.) on November 16th. The forward finished one rebound shy of another double-double and had four steals in the 73-63 win. Ellis finished with a team-high 19 points, adding a game-high 12 rebounds and a game-high five assists versus Mount Saint Vincent on November 21st. After playing just four minutes in the first half due to foul trouble, the forward exploded for 18 points and 12 rebounds in the second 20 minutes to help The College of New Rochelle cut a 25 point deficit to just six on three occasions. The senior averaged 22.0 points per game on 51.2 percent shooting and brought down 11.0 boards per game.
