NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. — Two New Rochelle High School students were among the 1,600 semifinalists chosen nationwide for the 2015 National Achievement Scholarship program honoring black scholars.
Ashleigh M. Genus and Evan C. Stapleton were chosen based on their scores on the national standardized Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
To advance to the finalist competition, Genus and Stapleton must submit a detailed application that includes academic record, school and community activity participation, demonstrated leadership, employment and honors and awards received. The 1,300 finalists will be chosen in late January, based on abilities, accomplishments and potential for success in rigorous college studies.
All National Achievement Scholarship winners will be selected from this group of Finalists based on information submitted about their abilities, accomplishments, and goals.
The National Achievement® Scholarship Program is an academic competition established in 1964 to provide recognition for outstanding Black American high school students. Black American students can qualify for recognition and be honored as Scholars in both the 2015 National Merit Program and the 2015 National Achievement Program, but can receive only one monetary award.
