Iona College Basketball Star Arrested for Assault in New Rochelle

NewImageNEW ROCHELLE, NY — An Iona College basketball player was arrested for assault in New Rochelle by the New Rochelle Police Department following an incident a few blocks from campus.

David Laury, the Gael’s star forward, was charged with Assault-3rd, a misdemeanor, following an incident at 52 Coligini Avenue at about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday night.

Laury, who currently leads the team in rebounds with 7.4 per game and is second on the team in scoring, averaging 16.6 points per game, will not play in tonight’s game according to team sources.

“Men’s basketball senior David Laury will not play in tonight’s games due to a violation of team rules,” said Iona Athletic Department spokesman Brian Beyrer.

Laury left the scene, reportedly walking back to campus, wearing his Iona College warm-up gear but appears to have returned , based on the report, and was arrested at the location of the incident.

Laury came to Iona College after his freshman year at Lamar State. Prior to that he attend Ocean Academy in Bayville, NJ for a post-graduate year after attending NIA School.
