NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Four Monroe Mustangs soccer players were named All-Americans by the NJCAA, putting a fitting capper to Monroe’s championship soccer season that saw the women win the national championship and the men reach the national finals.
For the women, sophomore Christina Charles was named to the first team and sophomore Gemma Craine was a Second-team All-American.
On the men’s side, sophomore Tarek Beckles and freshman Khadim Seye were Second-team All-Americans.
Along with Lorina White, the 5’7″ Charles, who is a native of New City, NY, was seen as the backbone of Monroe’s defense that stymied some of the nation’s most prolific scoring teams right through the national final game.
Craine, a 5’4″ forward from England, scored a number of important goals for Monroe, most notably the game-winner in a double-overtime victory over Harford.
Beckles, a 6’0″ midfielder from Brooklyn had a number of big moments commanding the center of the field for the Mustangs, but maybe none were more important nor more impressive than the left-footed blast he hit from 20-yards away to tie the score in the national final with just minutes left to bring Monroe within a goal of the title.
Seye had his biggest moment in the nationals, too. The 6’3″ freshman from the Bronx who was known for his even demeanor and incredibly steady play on the field, was one of Monroe’s goal scorers in the PK session that earned them a berth in the national finals. He was also named to the All-Tournament team.
