Record Breaking Weekend for College of New Rochelle Swimming at Ranger Invitational

MADISON, NJ –- The College of New Rochelle swim team competed in the three day Ranger Invitational at Drew University this weekend. The Blue Angels broke three school records including the 400 Yard Medley Relay, 100 Yard Breaststroke, and 100 Yard Backstroke.

Claudia Benitez, Ilsy Rodriguez, Zuri Mena, and Barrett Pritchard started off their weekend swimming the 400 Yard Medley Relay finishing in 5:26.19, smashing the school record by ten seconds, while earning the Blue Angels six points. The foursome also earned four points in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay and an additional two points in the 200 Yard Medley Relay, finishing with times of 2:03.56 and 2:19.93, respectively.

Mena and Rodriguez each broke records individually in the pool this weekend as well. Mena broke the 100 Yard Backstroke school record, set four years ago by 1.48 seconds with a 1:20.11 finish and broke the 100 Yard Freestyle finishing in 1:05.02. Rodriguez qualified for the finals in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:25.81, breaking the previous record she set last year by 1.40 seconds.

The Blue Angels will return to the pool in the New Year traveling to Allentown, PA for a dual meet against Cedar Crest College and Wilkes University on January 17. Meet is set for 1pm.
