New Rochelle High Schools Girls Basketball Game in Rye Cancelled Due to Bomb Threat

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The New Rochelle High Schools Girls Basketball game against Rye High School was cancelled tonight as the result of a bomb threat at Rye High School.

Rye High School was evacuated shortly before the 7 pm game.

The game was the Championship game of the Rye Rotary Tournament.

Rye City Police and Westchester County Police responded to the scene, closed off streets in the area and searched the building. No explosives were found.

Rye Schools Superintendent Frank Alvarez, in a message sent to the school community, said the all-clear was given about an hour later.

“Our highest priority is the safety of our students, faculty and staff…An investigation into the source of the threat is now underway,” said Alvarez in his email.

No injuries were reported.
