Martinez shot 60.0% from the field, connecting on 24 of her 40 attempts from the field. She opened the week with 25 points, 12 rebounds, three assists and two steals in Iona’s road victory over Siena. Martinez went 11-for-15 from the floor while also recording her second double-double of the season.

Martinez then scored a season-high 41 points against Rider at home. The 5-7 guard connected on 13 field goals, and went 14-for-16 from the charity stripe. It marked the third 40-point effort of her career, which mark the only three times the feat has been accomplished in program history.

The nation’s active leading scorer has now scored 2,292 points over her standout four seasons with the Gaels, and sits just 175 points away from tying the MAAC scoring record (Patty Stoffey, Loyola, 2,467). She already holds the league record for three-pointers, set on Dec. 29 at ETSU.

Martinez, who entered this season as the nation’s leading returning scorer, is averaging 25.1 points per game this season, good for third in the country. She is the nation’s active leader in field goals with 836, and also ranks in the top ten among active players in career scoring average (20.3 ppg), three-point field goals (281) and three-point field goal percentage (40.7%).

Martinez averaged 24.9 points per game for the Gaels a season ago, eighth overall in the country. Martinez’s efforts earned her the MAAC Player of the Year award for the second consecutive season, along with AP All-American Honorable Mention and All-Met Player of the Year recognitions. She was also named to the All-MAAC and All-Met First Teams and All-ECAC Second Team. Martinez was a finalist for the Nancy Lieberman Award, given to the nation’s top backcourt player.
