The Symphony of Westchester Family Concert This Weekend at Iona College Featuring “The Selfish Giant”

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Symphony of Westchester will perform a Family Concert this weekend at Iona College, suitable for children 4 years and older.

Robert Sherman will narrate “The Selfish Giant” composed by Seymour Barab for Narrator and Orchestra.

The program includes Composers of the Future (children’s pieces from our outreach program with New Rochelle’s Songcatchers) and the Student Concerto Competition Winner in collaboration with The Hoff-Barthelson Music School of Scarsdale.

“The Selfish Giant” by Oscar Wilde is one of the five stories in the collection The Happy Prince and Other Tales.

It is a story of a Selfish Giant owns a beautiful garden in which children love to play. After seven years away, the Giant returns. He builds a wall to keep the children out. The story is about the power of love to transform an individual.

The performance will be held at the Christopher J. Murphy Auditorium at Iona College on Sunday Feb. 8 at 3 p.m. (snow date is Sat. February 7th at 3 p.m.)

The price of admission is $5 for children and $15 for adults.
