NEW ROCHELLE, NY — All occupants of a house at 46 Fifth Avenue escaped unharmed after a fire on the first floor sent flames and smoke throughout the house.
“It could have been a lot worse,” said Deputy FIre Chief Robert Benz. “There were no smoke detectors in the home”.
Eight people were left homeless by the fire.
New Rochelle firefighters arrived on the scene at 3:55 am to find flames from the first floor and smoke coming out of the windows.
The family will be able to return to the house, according to the Deputy Chief.
A burning candle may have been the source of the fire.
No one was injured.
