NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Rabbi David Schuck expected to be approved as the next Senior Rabbi of the Beth El Synagogue Center, subject to congregational approval.

Rabbi Schuck was selected by the Rabbi Search Committee and recommended by the Board of Trustees. There will be a Special Meeting of the Congregation on Wednesday, February 25th at 8:00 p.m. to hold an election for Senior Rabbi of Beth El.

The selection of Rabbi Schuck is the outcome of a year-long search that brought numerous applicants from around the world. His term would run from July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2018.

For the past 11 years, Rabbi Schuck has been the spiritual leader of The Pelham Jewish Center in Pelham, NY. He is credited with building up his shul from a struggling synagogue into a vibrant, engaged and committed Kehilla, with membership having increased approximately 50% since 2004 when he joined. He has brought meaning and ruach to their services, with dramatic increases in attendance and lay participation, while remaining committed to halacha and tradition.

Education has been a major focus for Rabbi Schuck, as well, developing a strong education program for adults and children. He has elevated Israel engagement, having led member (adult and youth) trips to Israel, as well as social action programs, including leading a delegation of High School students to the Dominican Republic on a service learning trip.

Rabbi Schuck has been very active in developing a unique intern mentoring program at PJC for JTS students and serves as an adjunct lecturer in the Professional and Pastoral Skills Department of the Rabbinical School at the Jewish Theological Seminary.

He serves on the Boards of the Westchester Jewish Council, Pelham Guidance Council, and the Mount Vernon Soup Kitchen.

Previously Rabbi Schuck was on the faculty of the Academy of Jewish Religion Rabbinical Studies in Yonkers (2009-2014), having developed and taught the fieldwork seminar course for Rabbinical and Cantorial students.

Rabbi Schuck’s wife, Tali, is the Director of Jewish Studies at Carmel Academy, and they are the proud parents of three children, sons Noam and Nadav, and daughter Zeev.
